PGA TOUR Championship returns to East Lake
The Tour Championship, also known as Tour Championship by Coca-Cola, has a rich history. For years, it has been the last tournament of the PGA Tour season. Since the FedEx Cup format was introduced, the Tour Championship was played as the last of the four
playoffs.
However, last year, there was an amendment in the rule. Now the Tour Championship is much more interesting and nail biting.
Unlike yester years, those who win at the East Lake take home $10 million and the FedEx Cup. This makes this event extremely interesting.
Previously, players and fans alike, lost interest in this tournament, as everything was almost decided heading to the East Lake. This new format will keep the players and fans right on their toes.
This tournament has been played on numerous golf courses previously. Since 2004, East Lake has been the regular host of this tournament.
The Tour Championship again tees off at the East Lake on Thursday. This year’s event will be, by far, the most competitive and exciting edition.
The special thing this year is that seventeen of the thirty players taking part in this event are Ryder Cuppers, who will go head to head against each other next week.
Another talk of the town has been the growing rivalry between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. For the last few tournaments, they were paired together, and once again at the East Lake, they are in the same group.
This year’s tournament will be the toughest, as the players taking part in it are all world class. The whole of the USA Ryder Cup team will take the field, whereas five members of the European Ryder Cup will also be eyeing the $10 million purse.
The top five in the FedEx Cup standings have their fate in their hands, as they need no assistance to land in the FedEx Cup title.
A victory for them will surely wrap things up. Brandt Snedeker has been extremely hot recently and he will surely be eyeing the bonus.
“If I win this week,” Snedeker said, “it doesn’t do [McIlroy] a whole lot of good right now”.
