PGA Tour Qualifying school ; Second day of the second stage
The second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying school is currently underway its second round that will continue till the 19th of November. The second round is being held at the Bar Creek and had Michael Hendry performing brilliantly at the opening round of the event.
Hendry, a golfer from Auckland, started the second stage of the Q school brilliantly with a score of 67 in California. He is the winner of the Indonesian Open held this year and grabbed the 13th position at the Australian Masters held in Melbourne the past weekend. As far as the second stage is concerned, the golfer attained a two stroke front at the event.
The final stage of the Q school will be held next month and will include a list of 20 players from this stage. The final battle field will thus comprise of 20 golfers and ties that remained successful throughout the second stage. For the 2011 PGA Tour, the lineup would only include 25 players as well as ties.
As far as Michael Hendry is concerned, the golfer was seen aptly striving for the top place at the richest tour in the world. Hendry was competing along with 7 golfers from New Zealand in a competition that is literally spread throughout the U.S.
Hendry’s journey in the world ranking has been nothing short of spectacular. Moving back 4 months, the golfer from Auckland jumped from being the 6th highest New Zealander on the list to being the second highest. The top position is occupied firmly by David Smail.
Among others who appeared at the Bar Creek, Danny Lee and Phil Tautarangi carded a 73 and a 76 respectively. Lee finished his round at the 33d position and carded a one over while the former PGA Tour winner Tautarangi went much lower than the Rotorua youngster and carded a 4 under par.
Other than Lee and Tautarangi, Brad Iles and Steven Alker also managed to display their good form after appearing as regulars on this year's second-tier Nationwide Tour.
Alker shot a brilliant 68 in California at the second round and finished 4th. Although the golfer couldn't make the cut at the Nationwide Tour event, he managed to collect a minus 4 that could push him further up the leader board.
Among the top nineteen, Tim Wilkinson ended at the 39th place tied at the Panama City in Florida. The Palmerston North PGA Tour regular carded a score that was three-shots off the pace which could place him in the top nineteen. These 19 players will be advancing from the Southern Hills.
