PGA Tour to discuss new schedule next week
It is expected that the Professional Golf Association (PGA) officials will make slight changes to its tournaments of the current year.
The PGA Tour’s policy board will meet at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge next week during the game play of Arnold Palmer Invitational, scheduled to be presented by MasterCard, from March 22 to 25, 2012.
It is highly expected that the alterations will be for the PGA Q-School.
It was October 2011, when the board got an approval that the tournament will be played among the top-75 Nationwide Tour players and among players ranked on money list from 126 to 200.
Like the past, the top-50 will be earning the tour card for the next year, after the final round. However, this plan needs a final vote in the next week to be implemented effectively.
According to the officials, this change is attractive. They are striving hard to make the PGA Tour events more impressive and competitive.
For this initiative, the officials want to make the Q-School tournament tougher and appealing for all the qualifying players.
According to the PGA Tour, there are 45 official money tournaments to be played in the current year. In 2011, there were 37 and now the numbers have been increased by eight impressively.
There was a new sponsor for the Humana Challenge and the players will also experience RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island with a new sponsor, from April 12 to 15.
"The 2012 schedule again demonstrates the strength of our sport with a very strong collection of tournaments, venues and sponsors that provide outstanding playing opportunities for our members and attractive viewing options for our fans," PGA TOUR Commissioner
Tim Finchem said.
"The FedExCup and the PGA TOUR Playoffs continue to generate interest and excitement through September, with the Fall Series focusing on the drama of players fighting for their playing privileges," he added.
Some dates and the venues were also changed before. Now the HP Byron Nelson Championship will be held from May 14-20.
Moreover, the Crowne Plaza Invitational will be staged at Colonial from May 24 to 27. Their weeks had been switched for some unknown reasons.
Similarly, there are other events that include The Greenbrier Classic from July 2 to 8, and The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic from November 5 to 11.
These changes are making the season more appealing and feasible for the players and spectators at the same time.
Now, during Arnold Palmer Invitational, Q-School chances will also be in favour of popularity.
