What does a Head Golf Pro do? How do you become one? How much money do they make?

  1. Most of em' scrape by, giving lessons to their clients at whichever course they work for.  Some are good enough to make it onto a country club, where the money is obviously better.

It takes years of classes, tests, seminars. etc.. to earn your PGA class A teaching license...

Money isnt great at all, unless youre behind the gates of a well to do country club as mentioned above...

  2. There are a few ways to become what is known as a Class A PGA Club Professional.  The most well-known method is the apprentice program.  Basically you get seek a full-time position under a current Head Pro as his/her assistant.  They advise you about the requirements from the PGA to become Class A. (multiple college level classes, players ability test etc.) Over time, you earn your Class A status and are eligible to be hired as a Head Professional.  For more information, stop in at a local club or make an appointment  with a local Pro and ask him about this program...he may even know who might be hiring in his "section." (A section is how the PGA breaks down the country.)
