PGA tour extends ticket sale dates of PGA Championship
Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour has reopened the ticket sales for the PGA Championship, which is one of the four flagship events on the tour, taking place on Kiawah Island on August 6-12, 2012.
PGA Tour official, Roger Warren broke the big news in a press conference on Monday, “When the final putt drops at the 2011 PGA Championship on Sunday, August 14, we will reopen ticket sales and anticipate
a complete sell out within a few days.  The remaining 6% of tickets will be available for purchase online and through the PGA call centre.”
He explained the agenda behind the extension date of the ticket sales. He said that the Saturday ground tickets had been sold and only Friday and Sunday round tickets remained. According to the details,
30 percent of the tickets had been sold and the rest would be given off on first come first serve basis.
Warren added that a couple of events had taken place in South Carolina, which is the venue for the PGA Championship and the crowd of the area was supportive and very enthusiastic. To cater the needs of
the people of Carolina, the management decided to increase the number of tickets.
Warren went on to add, “This is both a testament to the popularity of golf in South Carolina and the level of excitement people have throughout the state to finally see major Championship come to South Carolina. We do not plan
on waiting another 94 years to have another major Championship in South Carolina.”
Commenting on the business done by last year’s event, Warren said that the 2010 event broke all the previous records. But looking at the present situation in which single day ticket sales had recorded
a turnover of five times more than last year, officials have decide to extend the dates.
This turnover would bring a positive impact of $92-million in the economy of the area, as fifty thousand spectators, 570 million households in roughly 200 countries will witness the second major of the season taking place in the
vicinity of South Carolina, where the 1991 Ryder Cup took place.
