PGA tour - the Barclays
FedEx Cup playoffs are far more important than the regular playoffs that take place at the end of a tournament when there is a tie for the top 1 position.
However, a big debate can take place on the topic as which playoff is more important but for now, the end of the season is approaching and it is time to decide who is going to make it to the automatic spot in the US Ryder cup team headed by Corey Pavin. 125 top players are going to the Barclays to decide the winner of the tournament. The Barclays is taking place at the Ridgewood country club from the 26th August all the way to the 29th.
The first of the four playoffs with $1 million for the winner is all set on the course with par 71 and 7319 yards, however after this tournament the playoffs will move to the next stage that is the Deutsche Bank Championship with the top 100 players according to the FedEx points. Now the issue arising here is that Tiger woods’ is standing at the 112th spot of the point list, although he is the defending champion of the FedEx Cup but as he did not have any significant victory in the same season; his chances of progressing in the tournament are getting eliminated day by day. However, the least Tiger Woods can do is make a cut in the playoff so that he can proceed further to the next round, which will take place in Boston next week.
In the Fed Ex, the points leader of the house is Ernie Els with 1,846 points while Steve Stricker stands at the second place with a 1,697, Jim Furyk at the 3rd with 1,691, Phil Mickelson at the 4th with 1,629 and Justin Rose with 1,593 at the top 5. Rest of the top 10 include Jeff Overton, Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar and Tim Clark.
Making a prediction that who will catch the early victory at the playoffs is a difficult task. Although the playoffs will terminate with the tour championship in September 2010; even then fluctuations will be witnessed in the Fed Ex points according to the analysts. This is one side of the story which is as easy as possible because all a player needs is a top 5 finish to grab the cup. But on the other side is the captain, who is stuck in a dilemma of whom to choose and how to choose? Tiger Woods is high on the list of Corey Pavin as he is the world’s number 1 and the defending champion of the FedEx Cup but in order to earn some points Tiger has to put more effort or else he is out.
Tiger’s recent divorce is hovering in the minds of the captain and the media, making him the centre of attention. Plenty of discussion is taking place and people are thinking that with an end to his married life Tiger Woods will come back to his real self. However, it may not be as easy as it sounds. Golf is not a piece of cake, and the presence of young and fresh talent makes it harder to get secure a sound place.
The betting preview indicates that David Tom and Phil Mickelson are in the race of being number 1 according to the OWGR. However, who will actually win the Barclays that is currently taking place at Ridgewood country club from 26th August is a tough question. Nonetheless, one thing is evident; whoever wins the tournament surely deserves the credit for carrying nerves of steel.
