PGE Skra Belchatow and Drean Bolivar qualify for the semi-final of 2010 FIVB Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar
The men’s club volleyball team of Poland, PGE Skra Belchatow reserved a berth in the semi-finals by posting a straight victory over Al-Ahly of Egypt on Sunday, 19th December, 2010. The Al-Gharafa Sports Hall in Doha, Qatar hosted the thrilling
match, which was witnessed by 820 spectators. PGE Skra Belchatow maintained their good run in Pool ‘A’ and clipped absolute success in the first preliminary round of the tournament. They played three matches and demonstrated their classic skills to finish
on the podium. Last year’s runner-up team, PGE Skra Belchatow is full of ambition to grab the title trophy this year.
PGE Skra Belchatwo vs. Al-Ahly 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, and 25-22)
The match started out with an average speed. Both teams took a little time to settle down in the court. Polish squad was equipped with an outstanding player-line. Marcin Mozdzonek of PGE Skra Belchtow came strong on Al-Ahly’s team. He floated the ball in
air with poised fingers and produced powerful serves. Marcin was expert in throwing the ball at varied lengths. Some of his short serves created great trouble for Al-Ahly’s side. The ball perfectly landed in Egyptian half and promptly raised Poland’s score.
Ahmed Abdul Latif of Al-Ahly formed a good combination with Mohamed AbdelRahim and resisted to Poland’s strike. However, Polish team heavily influenced rival side and restricted them to a low score. PGE Skrea Belchatow won the first set 25-13.
The second set was total disaster for Egyptian team. They played under pressure and failed to stand in the way to PGE Skra. Polish team remained on the winning course and quickly covered the length of second set. Al-Ahly received 10-25 defeat in second set.
After dropping two sets, Al-Ahly reacted angrily. They came up with better strategy in third set and controlled their reception errors. Their game suddenly came out of blues and they worked out good progress. Nonetheless, PGE Skra Belchatow didn’t allow
them take the game away from them. They played in great style and pulled off 25-22 victory in third set.
Drean Bolivar vs. Dynamo Moscow 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-19)
Likewise, the Argentinean Drean Bolivar made their mark in Pool B. They defeated Russia’s Dynamo Moscow in four-set game on Sunday. The Argentinean team will now meet PGE Skra in the first semi-final today (December 20, 2010) at the Al-Gharafa Sports Hall.
First set of the game was tough battle between two arch rivals of Club World Championship. Drean Bolivar’s Federico Pereyra outshined with incredible shots. His speedy spikes and tricky bump passes worked magic for Dream Bolivar. On the other hand, Peter
Veres of Dynamo Moscow hit unstoppable under-hand shots. He hit the ball in corners and raised his team’s score. The exchange of speedy spikes was seen throughout the set, while score shifted up with narrow gap. At the end, Drean Bolivar proved to be better
side and clinched success by polling 25-22.
The second set also came successful for Drean Bolivar. They continued with hard-hitting and led the game with better score. Dynamo Moscow fought bravely but it seemed as if they were out luck. Drean Bolivar once again sparked on the scene and closed second
set with same score of 25-22.
Dynamo Moscow hit back in third set and managed to steal points from Drean Bolivar. Russians turned many heads around with a great comeback in third set. They claimed the set with 4-point margin at 25-21. Nonetheless, Drean Bolivar bounced back and regained
the control of operations in fourth set. They pushed Dynamo Moscow with the help of better attack and defence strategy. Argentina’s team won the final set and declared match victory.
