I have been asking about my lawn in mid mich, checked the ph and it is highly alkaline. Some sites are saying to add sulphur or iron sulfate. My soil seems relatively compact, but not horrible. I donot want to tear up the yard AGAIN! Please,I just tilled and seeded it last spring (2007). Any suggestions on what to do without digging up the entire lawn?

  1. In the Southwest we have water and soil that is very alkaline. You can keep fighting it or you can just surrender.  There are lots of green things that do better in alkaline soil; altho nothing really thrives in it.   You can find an alternative to grass.  You'll do it when you have dug up the entire lawn ....once too many times.
