Question:

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA SEQUEL!! OUTRAGEOUS OR NOT???

OK, who thinks that making a sequel to the Phantom of the Opera, the BEAUTIFUL London musical is outrageous and completely idiotic on Andrew Lloyd Webber's part? What was he thinking? POTO should be left alone! The story's not MEANT to carry on, it should remain a mystery! It's going to be called "Phantom: Once Upon Another Time". How cheesy is that? How could they do this?? How could they butcher a timeless, beautiful musical like that? A BOOK is even being written as sequel! How insulting is that to poor Mr. G. Leroux? AND, to add insult to injury, Mr. Webber wants Gerard Butler to be in the West End performance. NO THANKS!! That man does not BELONG on stage, I didn't even think he was well suited for the movie, let alone a live production. His voice just isn't...right.

Does anyone agree with me that the idea of making a sequel to go onstage in London/Broadway is absolutely insane? What about casting Mr. Butler onstage? You don't have to agree with me on both counts. But does anyone else agree?

P.S. If it does truly come out in London, in November 2009 as planned, I'm not going to go see it.

  1. Mr Weber's put together some very memorable compositions, but he's really an annoying twit.

There is a story that Mr Weber, on meeting a famous composer, asked, "Why do so many of the people I meet tend to dislike me from the first moment?"

The composer replied, "To save time."

A sequel to the Phantom is just one more example of ego-fed imbecility.

And casting Butler again is simply adding insult to the injury to Gaston Leroux's original conception of Erik that was done in the filmed version of the musical.

  2. What? A sequel?

I agree that they shouldn't have messed with the story. But as long as they are, I plan to enjoy it... or try to. I liked the ending--or lack thereof-- of the original, because it was so mysterious. You can only guess about what has happen end, and that's the best part. I don't think I care to know.

I thought that Gerard Butler did a great job in the movie. His voice was perfect for it, in my opinion. It wasn't fantastic, but do you really want it to be? You want to hate the Phantom, but you love him at the same time, so a moderately good voice is perfect. At least, in the movie.

Edit: Well if you're talking theater, then ask Performing Arts. We are Book people, who watch book movies. Though I do like theater, I cannot seem to find anybody who is willing to take me to see the musical, and I live very far away from both New York, London, and Las Vegas. I'd love to see the musical, but I have to make due with the movie.

  3. Yes, I'm very upset by this! I'm pretty sure I'll not be watching the sequel so I don't get scarred for life or something.

  4. i am very upset by this, it is outrageous , i am not watching it.

  5. WHAT!!!! *GASP*

They are actually making a SEQUEL! Impossible! You cannot touch that, it must be left alone!

    I refuse to see it!

And they can't write a book to match both the original book and play. The book is almost a different story from the play!

    AHHHHHHHH!

  6. Yeah that ruins the beauty of the mystery in this movie. I don't want to know what happens after wards!
