PHF to organise second phase of U-18 training camp: Hockey News
After a short break, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is going to organise the second and final phase of the coaching camp for the Under-18 squad at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium in Karachi, on May 30, 2011. The first phase of the training camp,
which comprised of probable players, is already underway at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium in Islamabad.
It is vital to mention here that the Pakistan’s Under-18 squad is going to contest the U-18 Asia Cup that is scheduled to be held in Singapore from June 17 to 26. The U-18 Greenshirts have been featured in Pool-A where they will face Brunei, Kazakhstan,
Chinese Taipei and the host Singapore.
The Pool-B is comprised of Indonesia, China, Sir Lanka, Korea and Malaysia. Despite getting the approval from Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), the Indian team is not going to partake in the junior tournament.
In comparison of the two groups, the Pool-A seems less tough as compared to the Pool-B where Malaysia, Korea and China are the strong contenders. Pakistan expectedly will not face tough time from opponents, as Kazakhstan is not quite famous squad. However,
the Greenshirts will have to be careful while facing the South Asian team. Though they are new in the game, but they have a good reputation in the sporting practices.
On June 17, Malaysia will face Indonesia, China will play against Sri Lanka, and Singapore will meet Brunei while Kazakhstan will play against Chinese Taipei. In the very next day, only two matches will be played in which Malaysia will fight against China
and Indonesia against Korea. Pakistan will contest its first game against Brunei on June 19 while Kazakhstan will also face Singapore on the same day.
In the next day, Brunei will play against Kazakhstan, Pakistan will face Chinese Taipei and Indonesia will meet China and Korea will line-up against Sri Lanka. After one day rest, Chinese Taipei will play against Brunei, Korea against Malaysia, Sri Lanka
against Indonesia and Singapore against Pakistan on June 22, the last day of the group clashes.
In the meantime, the PHF placed two more names in the probable list of the senior players for the upcoming training camp that is scheduled to be held on May 30, 2011 at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium, Islamabad. The camp will be organised in preparations
for different assignments during the Europe tour.
The Spokesperson of the federation while talking to the media said that forward player, Bilal Qadir, and custodian, Mazhar Abbas, had been called in the coaching camp. In a bid to clarify the situation, the spokesperson further stated that the name of Arslan
Qadir was wrongly typed in the probable list as Faisal Qadir.
