PHF’s National Under-18 Girls Hockey Championship - Day Two
The second day of PHF’s National Under-18 Girls Hockey Championship took place on April 14 at Lahore’s National Hockey Stadium, Pakistan. The event will continue from April 12-19 in Lahore comprising of six teams taking part in the championship.
Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KPK) managed a victory while playing against Sindh. Besides KPK, Punjab Colours and Railways also took victory over Punjab Whites and Balochistan, respectively.
Railways defeated Balochistan with 9-0 score lead, out of which 6 were scored in the first half. The match between the two counter-parts, Punjab Colours and Punjab Whites, ended up in 2-0 lead for the Punjab Colours. Both the goals were scored during the
first half, whereas the second half concluded scoreless.
KPK managed to score two shots during the first half, with good defensive control over the Sindh players. However, Sindh slotted a score during the second half that soon got countered, closing the match in favour of KPK at 3-2 score win.
The Governor of Punjab, Sardar Mohammad Latif Khan Khosa, was the chief guest of the Championship. On this occasion, Khosa told that Pakistan had ruled over the world for decades in the sport of hockey.
He laid stress over the fact that hockey is in need of collective efforts to get it back towards development.
“Pakistan Hockey Federation is making sincere efforts for the revival of the game and that day is not far when we will once again emerge as a big hockey force at international level “, he added.
The Punjab Governor emphasised that the young players of Pakistan are the country’s hockey future and they deserve to be trained on modern methods.
“I see the participation of all the provinces in the championship which will further foster brotherhood and unity among the people of Pakistan”, he said.
Furthermore, Khosa pin-pointed on the fact that the youth must be motivated to turn themselves towards some healthy activities like sports, hence, contributing in the development of the country.
This event has been organised by the Punjab Hockey Association (PHA) women wing, while representing the country’s central sport body, Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) women wing. All the junior teams participating in the event are under the age-limit of
18 years.
Even though the eight-day event is being conducted by the women wing of PHA, however, the administration for the championship was selected by the PHF itself.
PHF has conducted an Under-18 Girl's Championship for the first time and is planning further to organise the event annually by the federation in various provinces of Pakistan.
