PHF’s National Under-18 Girls Hockey Championship inaugurates in Lahore
The National Under-18 Girls' Hockey Championship inaugurated yesterday on April 12, at Lahore’s National Hockey Stadium, Pakistan. The event will be held from April 12-19 in Lahore comprising of six teams taking part in the championship.
This event has been organised by the women-wing of Punjab Hockey Association (PHA) in order to represent the Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) women-wing. All the junior teams featuring the competition are under the age-limit of 18 years.
Total three matches were played on the first day of the U-18 Girls' Championship. This day turned out to be a very lucky day for half the teams, whereas unlucky for the other half, all at the same time.
This was all because of the huge score leads ending up with victories for Pakistan Railways, Punjab Colours and Punjab Whites, thus crushing the confidence of the teams suffering from such embarrassing defeats on the first day.
The stadium was accompanied by hardly a bunch of spectators, who also did not find the matches to be appealing, with solitary victories for Pakistan Railways thrashing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a 21-0 undefeated score, Punjab Colours trouncing the Baluchistan
with a 16-0 score lead and Punjab Whites defeating Sindh by a 15-1 score.
The Governor of Punjab Sardar Latif Muhammad Khosa will open the tournament on 13 April at the National Hockey Stadium.
The matches scheduled to be played on the second day of the event are:
April 13:        Sindh vs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
                    Punjab Colours vs Punjab Whites
                    Railways vs Balochistan.
This eight-day event was planned to be conducted by the women-wing of PHA as per the instructions of PHF. However, the administration for the championship was selected and announced by the PHF itself.
The panel of technical officials includes Parveen Sikandar Gill as the tournament director, with Lubna Baloch and Ghazala Tariq as tournament officers.
Seven judges that got appointed are namely Shamim Warraich, Najma Gillani, Ajmal Hameed Butt, Uzma Rizvi, Saman Rasheed, Humaira Mughal, Farhat Malik and Robina Nasreen.
Moreover, the umpires selected for the championship are Razia Rizvi, Shazia Yousaf, Kamran Hussain, Chand Parveen, Waqas Ahmed Butt, Haider Rasool, Beenish Hayat, Sehrish Ghuman and Syed Saima Afzal with Rashad Mehmood Butt as the umpire’s manager.
The PHA President for the women wing, Prof Abida Tanveer, was declared as the organising secretary for the championship with assistance from Shagufta Liaqat Randhawa.
Shahid Khanum is the event chief coordinator, who will be deputed by Shahid Nizami and Shafique Bhatti.
The championship is being conducted for the first time under this age group and is expected to be held annually by the federation in various provinces of Pakistan.
