My partner has just found his old stamp collection from when he was a boy, some of which were collected by his father when HE was a boy...there are hundreds of stamps but we have no idea how / where to get them valued by somebody we can trust!

Any tips?

Thank you!

P.S. We are in the UK, specifically Edinburgh.

  1. Get a copy of the Stanley Gibbons Stamp Catalog at your local library, ( in the USA we use Scotts).  It sounds like you might have some stamps worth, perhaps, hundreds.

  2. look in the Gibbions Catalog and yo will find ads for several large companies anything your area that specialize in stamp sales and buying. They make their living doing this and have a long time reputation to up hold, I would use at least two or more before selling anything. Different companies have different needs at different times and will pay by what they need at the time. You can contact the American Philatelist Society for both advice on selling and even places to deal with they also can handle the sale if you don't mind dealing oversea's.

  3. Isn't the price written on the stamp?

  4. I would not trust any appraiser when I could very well search for the value of each stamp myself...

It might take a little time - but it can be quite a surprise to find THAT ONE stamp....

you can determine the value yourself....
