  1. With any antique, it would be better to keep it as original as possible.

  2. If the lamp is of no collectible value, rewiring will definitely increase its utility value. If the lamp has collectible value, contact a specialist.

  3. It will increase its value because you are making something that is initially there a better product. If you are selling it this will increase its value because somebody may want to buy it because it is functional, however if it isn't functional that same person may not want to purchase that item.

  4. what like an antique one?

im pretty sure it decreases the value. check with a local antique dealer though!

i cant find any information on the Internet, but i saw on TV that  most collectors prefer they're antiques (whatever it is) in it's original condition.

so if your selling it as a collectors piece i'd leave it alone, if your selling it as an usable "every day" lamp then switch it!

but i'd seek the opinion of an expert (Antique store) before doing anything, the market for every day lamps may be better than the one for collectable pieces!

    good luck!

  5. If you plan on using it, best to rewire it for safety.

If you plan on selling it , would leave all parts  original to the lamp in place.

Someone willing to spend that amt can pick the color of a new cord & type of lamp base for themselves.
