  1. "Break" is a particular place where the waves break with certain usual or regular characteristics within real or imaginary geographical boundaries. You can go to any beach front town, and It may have several "breaks" at different locations along the beach front. Some may be defined by the type of "break" 'beach break'; 'reef break'; 'point break' etc., and identified by name based on the physical location at which place you enter the ocean ie. 'may favorite break is States Avenue in Atlantic City" or by nicknames "the Washout is a great break, but 10th street isn't as consistent". there are some times that the surf breaks in different ways at breaks that are not far apart, because of bottom characteristics, or the shape of the beach. If I'm in a town, and I go to a beach where the waves are not good, I might drive down the road to a different "break" where conditions might be more favorable.

Now, I looked at every surf glossary I could find, and I could come up with a better definition. So maybe someone out there has one.

  2. sounds like you're being asked where your "home break" is, or where you usually surf, if you have one. get more info at wikipedia, search for the term, 'localism' under surfing. hope this helps.

  3. John's right on point, a break is basically the specific location of a particular break. For example, in San Onofre you got old man's, trails, church's, etc..
