like because my dad washed these tongs from pork chops on the grill over these dishes in the sink and I don't want salmanilla

I cleaned the sink twice, I am washing the sponge and the dish cloth and the dishes in the sink. I am a little germaphobic but I don't want to catch salmonilla (or however you spell it)

P.S. We aren't slobs or anything, there were just a few dishes in the sink because the dishwasher needed to be emptied.

  1. Most dishwashing detergent is not antibacterial, unless it says so on the bottle. However, the detergent gets the grease and food off (which is where bacteria grows). When you wash dishes you should wear plastic gloves and have the water as hott as possible. This hott water is what kills the bacteria.

Antibacterial soap is a bad idea. It helps bread resistant bacteria.

Scrubbing fully and rinsing with HOTT water will do the trick

  2. I use Shaklee detergent ( http://www.shaklee.net/bvcomm/product/Ge... ) and I make sure me water is HOT HOT!!  I have had no problems.

  3. Most dish washing SOAPS for dishwashers are mostly costic soda, mixed with the really hot water in a machine NO germs can survive. They come out STERILE.
