My husbands who is 46 years old, has a problem with his feet that often swells up. He went to the doctor, and they found vitamin d deficiany, which he started a course of medicine, and finished the course. Now, I noticed black patches on his ankles which almost look like dirt, but you cant scrub it off. Has anyone have a similar problem or know what this is due to? I am very concerned about this.

Thanks for your help!

  1. OK, this type of discoloration of the skin is caused by a lack of oxygen to that area.  The lack of oxygen causes small veins and membranes to surface causing a bluish or blackish discoloration.

This happen to my Mother-in-law, she was prescribed Lipitor, a cholesterol lower drug and her angles became extremely swollen where it was very painful to walk.  Once off the drug her angles went down to normal.  We ask the Dr. about the discoloration and that's what he told us.  Hope this helps.

  2. I'm not sure if this is similar to your husband's problem but I had callast on the insides of my feet from my sport and sometimes they cant turn a little bit black if you don't get rid of them.  To get rid of them, buy a pumice stone and rub the stone on the area while in the shower and keep rubbing until it is gone.  It doesn't hurt at all.  It worked for me; give it a go.

  3. Have you heard of gout? It might be what he has. Here's some info from the web. Good Luck

  4. The swelling in the feet should not be taken lightly. It could be related to blood pressure, kidney problems or even blood circulatory problems due to varicosed veins. Does your hubby's job involve a lot of standing or a lot of sitting? Either case may produce water retention on the feet and ankles. It's probably giving him a tired achy feeling especially at nights. Rub a little messaging/medicated oil on his feet and message it with firm, upward strokes using your thumb. It will make the ache go away but you'll have to do it every night. Your hubby will love it.The dark patches too is indicative of oedema with blood vessels towards the skin being destroyed. Once the cause of the swelling is known, the problem can be hopefully resolved and the black patches will eventually go away. Go back to the doctor, get a blood test to check for his glucose level and kidney function. Get his blood pressure checked as well. Give your hubby Vitamin C's, B's and D's + magnesium. A good multivit is essential for us once we've reached 35. Don't worry too much, OK? I think the messaging alone might help but we must never take things for granted.

  5. There is this disease called the Black Death. look it up.
