  1. Laws and landlord obligations are different depending on where you live...BUT you should call your land lord ASAP regardless of whether or not he is obliged to help.  You can explain to him that it is in his best interest to help you resolve the problem or all tenants could possibly/probably be infested.   Both your and his problem will only be increased if the entire building becomes infested!

On your part you need to vacuum every nook and cranny--everywhere, and then throw the vacuum bag outside in the trash.  If you can't afford new bedding, then you will have to cover your existing bedding with protective encasements to trap the bugs inside your mattress (not very comforting at all).  One such encasement is called Bug Off by Protect-a-Bed.

  2. Are you sure they aren't fleas?  We had problems with fleas at a new home we moved into even though we picked the home based on the NO PETS policy they had.  Apparently, the last occupant hid thier pets.  We never spotted a flea but I kept having big itchy red bumps show up on us.  We had to flea bomb everything to get rid of them.

  3. If it's your mattress then no... but tell them you have fleas first- have them pay for the bombing and see how it goes.

    It's most likely fleas.

  4. Since these little guys are very mobile, my suggestion would be to do the following.

Go to a local hardware store and get some insect indoor foggers. There are several types, but look for the ones you add water to, not the spray fogger. Usually comes in packs of three.

Depending on the size of your room apartment, use at least 1 per room. (If you have a gas stove/water heater, make sure the piolit light is off).

Open all your closets, remove all linens from the bed (Wash in HOT water)...scatter you pillows around the room. Take you mattress and box springs and turn them on the side. Best if they are on the side on the frame. You want to get all sides of the mattress into the fog.

Turf off all air conditioners and fans. Start the fog and leave for at least 6 hours.

I did this a few years back in an apartment, and it worked pretty well.
