PLEASE HELP! House inundated with ants. What to do?

We keep the place spotless - vaccum, do dishes, sweep floors, etc. No food around. But ants come in all the time. The problem is big enough that sprays and those food traps are NOT working.

I was told by a couple "pest control" companies that the only way to get rid of it is to get their monthly treatment, but I don't know if they are just pushing their services. Please let me know your experiences.

  1. You need to locate their colonies and destroy them.  Sprays and traps only provide a little control at the margins.

Mopping the floor is better than sweeping as it will remove the chemical trails they use to find their way.

  2. It depends on the type of ant you are dealing with If they are black ants of all sizes you are dealing with carpentar ants. Carpentar Ants are somewhat like termites but they dont eat the wood they bore through it to nest in. As an employee in the pest control industry it is my job to sell services suck as the one that you reffered to. I highly recommend that you go with it as it is most effective but if you are looking for do it yourself ways I recommend that you start by finding the nest. If you find the nest directly it will work best. If you call a pest control company they can tell you what they use. You can often buy the products they use off the internet. Make sure you read the label this is very important. The best way to find the nest is to follow them in the evening. That is when they start to trail back to the nest. Hope this helps.

  3. Get a product called Android, I think...it's a honey like liquid that the ants will take back to the Queen and kill all the ants. in their nest.
