My nipples are so red and dry that they are swollen. They sting when I get warm water on them. I have tried Lanolin Oil, Vinegar, Tea Tree Oil, Baking Soda, Golden Seal....Am I missing something? Please help. It's been on and off for 2 months!

  1. It could be a thrush infection. I had the same thing and it turns out that what it was, I also had pain and burning in my b*****s. I used daktarin gel on both my nipples and my baby's mouth and it cleared up. Best to go see you doctor first though incase thats not what it is.

You could try expressing for a few days and see if that helps heal them or try nipple shields?

  2. You poor thing, I remember those days, it's terrible.

It sounds like you are ready for some professional help.  Is there a breastfeeding center or specialist in your area?  They have access to some new products on the market.  There are some silicone type shields you can put in the refrigerator and then put inside your bra - those were a lifesaver for me.  I don't think you can buy the medical grade ones anywhere, but try googling for some lactation consultants in your area.

The key for me was lanolin, applied early and often, at the first sign of soreness.  Has anyone helped you see if your baby has a proper latch?

I promise it gets easier, hang in there and get yourself some help.  In another few weeks, you'll be a pro!  The pain is worth it, I promise - breastfeeding is so rewarding.

  3. Hey proud, your question came up on my profile, I'm not a perv or anything, but I do a lot of outdoor activities and get sores from material rubbing on my skin. This is the only thing that cures it.

  4. lanoline should help..try a warm washcloth compress before rubbing anything on them,..go braless for another. make sure they get air, and are comfortable.  i know this sucks, i had the same problem.
