first of all sorry for this question...

I have just bought suppositories against haemorrids, it's the very first time I have to deal with this and I really don't know how.

Should I lay down or is it possible to stand up? And especially how do I know when it's far enough in? It just says insert far...

please give me your experiences and hints...

  1. Nearly all of these answers miss one vital point of information...

There is a resistance that must be overcome when the suppository is inserted, otherwise it will be pushed out again.

I would suggest that you buy a pack of latex or vinyl gloves to maintain hygiene on your hands. Guide the suppository in with your thumb and index finger then gently push it home with your middle finger (it's usually the longest finger).

You will feel some resistance and it may initially feel unpleasant but as soon as the suppository is safely inside the r****m, the unpleasantness should pass. This will normally indicate that the suppository is in the correct position.

  2. Squat down, push down like you're going to the bathroom, and insert.  It's tiny so don't tell me you can't do it.  You don't have to push it up that far, but it'll come out dissolved if you don't.

  3. i would suggest you to sit on the toilet, and first rub some vaseline, or lubricant to help it slide in.

    try to relax.

  4. Insert the suppositories blunt end first and you don't need lubricant as most come pre-lubed or are made with wax for easy insertion.

They are easy to insert in any position but you might want to sit over the toilet first time.

You just want to insert it into the r****m, don't worry about how far in you go.

Just relax and remember to watch your hands afterwards.

  5. Ok well first of all you need to relax because if you are tensed up then the muscles will be tight and it will make it more difficult. You could either do it lay down or sat on the toilet but i think it would be easier to insert if you are lay down. First of all you need a lubricant such as vaseline so that the suppository can slide in easily (this also makes it less uncomfortable). Then you need to lie on your stomach with your knees bent up towards your stomach so that you are sort of squatting and then you just push the suppository in, i think it should go about half the length of your little finger. It shouldnt hurt but it may feel uncomfortable. Also afterwards when the suppository has dissolved you may feel as if it is coming back down but this ok.

    Hope i helped

  6. Lie on your bed with your knees up as far they can go. Insert suppositorie  sit up and sort of squeeze the muscles in your bum, rather like sucking through a straw, sounds daft but can't explain it any other way. Sit there for a while then it should be ok.

    Good luck, nasty things piles.

  7. When you insert a suppository, direct its tapered end toward the side of the r****m so it contacts the membranes, encouraging absorption of the medication.

  8. Are you kidding me? You don't have to lie down or squat or sit down or do anything. Just stand up with your legs slightly spread apart and then use a bit of KY jelly on the very tip of the suppository. Slip it into your r****m. You will feel it slide up the r****m. Wipe the area with bathroom tissue to remove leftover KY gel and wash your hands. You're done.

Suppositories work best by keeping them refrigerated or frozen. (if you're using them for hemorrhoids.) Cold deflames the area and the suppository will not fall apart.
