PLEASE HELP! I am going into 8th grade as a 5'8 127 lb football player who is trying to decide on a position.?

This is only my second full season of football and I am yet to have a full blown position. For example, in our seven games last year, i played 8 positions. My positions were, RB, FB, OT, TE, SS, CB, OLB, MLB and WR. The only one where i got considerable minutes was OT where i started 4 games. This year the pressure is on to make a starting position as an 8th grader to look good for high school coaches. I am not incredibly strong but am athletic and fast. My friend says i would make a good S, OLB or QB (i am also a baseball player so the added arm strength helps. I am aware that it is harder to throw in pads and you need more than just an arm to play QB). I REALLY want to play LB but am not sure that I am strong enough. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

  1. You should give up and never play FB again.

  2. id say linebacker if u wanna do it go ahead, unless ur like really tiny. If not running back is cool

  3. Keep in mind you are just entering high school, growing happens. If you have speed and good hand-eye co-ordination, I would say go for Safety. You can get used to the speed of things and watch how the linebackers play until you fill-out a bit, and then you will have the experience on defense, and will have maintained the speed needed to excell at linebacker. Good luck playing, at any position!

  4. how come you dont ask your coach he would know your talent the best cause he is actually seeing it...all we can do is judge you by your weight and height

  5. Judging by your size, I would say Wide Reciever or DB (cornerback or safety) and like somebody else said, with Safety you could still make big hits. This really all just depends on your strong suits...if you are pretty fast then WR or RB would suit you well. But if you got more minutes on the O-line because you were good at it, then keep doing that, but it seems you might be a bit small for that in high school, so i'm thinking try for WR or DB.

  6. on offense you could probably be a nice WR or RB but if you have mostly played OT and you are good at it..you cant go wrong

on defense i think safety suits you best....you can play back and just protect and you can still deliver big hits like a linebacker

  7. Well, your height well limit the number of positions you can play. For example, on my high school team, players that were 5'8" were normally Wide Receivers, Kick Returners, Free Safeties, or Corner backs.

At 127-Lbs, you are underweight, especially for a 5'8" athlete. You need to gain weight and keep it steady at 170 or 175-Lbs.

I suggest playing corner back if you have speed or wide receiver. Also, try out for kicker if you have a good kicking leg.
