I have the AAA travelers insurance of Florida. Before, I used to just pay for the insurance of my husband and I which was 226 a month. My son was added on two years back, when he got his license and it became 500 dollars a month. Then last year my son moved to college in California, and we had removed hom from our insurance. I just got my new renewal policy this year, and they have added him back on it. I spoke to a AAA representative and she told me that I have to pay my sons car insurance even though hes in California and hes not driving just because hes a household member. Can the insurance company do that? Does it make sense even though they removed him last year? Do all insurance companies do it or are they ripping us off? Please help! I am very frustrated with this matter

Thank you in advance!

  1. you should try out this site, http://www.8ez.com/e8Jr161cr , they found me the cheapest quotes from all the possible insurance companies in the area.

  2. A child attending school away from home is generally treated as being resident in your home.  If he absolutely will not be driving any of your vehicles ever, see if you can have him named as an "excluded operator" on the policy.  Most insurers will do that.  If yours won't, it's probably time to start shopping for another carrier.

Bear in mind that if you do that, you will have ZERO coverage if he ever is operating one of your vehicles and has an accident, even if it's just during a brief trip home during semester breaks and even if it's under emergency conditions.

  3. I don't understand that at all. You should have complete control over who you pay to insure. Call back and ask the same questions. Maybe there was a communication gap.
