So, I came to the decision to stop playing a sport i played for 8 years. I had previously talked to my parents about this and they were furious saying that I would be an embarassment and they said F* you to me on the phone (something they've never done). I explained that I was not happy and was so miserable that i was making myself sick about it. I just wish they could allow me to be a normal college freshman who they can be proud of. I need to know how to tell them that iv quit playing, because its all i think about

  1. I'm not sure you were complete with your question.  If your parents have shelled out eight years of club fees and now you're on a scholarship to play volleyball, I think I may know where they're coming from (although I'm sorry they dropped the F bomb - they shouldn't have done that).

It may have seemed to them that you wanted to invest a big chunk of time into volleyball with the intention to go play college volleyball on a scholarship.  Now that you're burned out, I'm not sure they'd be so happy to plunk down the money for school.

Either way - go talk to your coach and tell him / her about what's going on.  He / She may not be happy about it, but he'll / she'll be able to give you options about taking a break and keeping your spot / scholarship for a while.

Most of all, take a deep breath.  Walk away from it for a day or two before classes start.  I've known players who have taken anywhere from a day to a year off just to get their head in the right place.  Some have come back full throttle and some haven't, but you want to make sure that you take your time before you make your final decision.

  2. its the hardest thing to do but just being honest with your parents will be the best. The logic behind that comment is what if your parents start making plans to see you play and then your not on the court they would be furious with you. You made a difficult decision to retire from your sport and you have to tell your parents that it is your life and you do not want to spend your time doing something that can jeopardize your college studies but being miserable.  Best of luck and i hope everything works out.

  3. try to reason with them first and if you tried your best to convince them but still no cigar then I don't think you should reallly worry about it at all. It's your life, not theres.

  4. why would you stop if your good get out there
