Question:

PLEASE HELP!! My Puppy's Leg?

She's just been downstairs with her sister, and is favouring one leg. I can't see any blood, and it's not sitting like it's broken.

I can't call the vet, because my family can't afford the vet bill, and I'm scared it could be a spider bite or something similar.

What can I do?

  1. well if there is no bump or raised area you might be able to rule out spider bites. i got a puppy this past christmas and my boyfriend stepped on his foot. it swelled up so bad and my dog just yelped every time he applied pressure to it. i thought for sure it was broken. it was the weekend and good luck trying to get a vet for emergencies where i live. anyway i waited a couple of days sure enough turns out my dog was milking his sore foot for attention. it was fine just bruised is all. now if the dog starts acting funny (keep in mind though that the dogs demeanor will change a little to keep the foot from hurting more) take the dog to the vet if you can.

  2. Sweetie, whoever is responsible for the bills in your house, your mom, your dad.... whoever that is.... tell them to apply for this okay?? They help with vet bills and she needs to go to the vet and be seen.  It may be nothing big but it also might be something that needs attention.... you have no medical training and no way of knowing.

Tell them also to try a Humane Society if you have one in your area and to call animal shelters in your area.  Alot of times, they'll know of low cost places or at least places that will offer you a payment plan that will work with you when you need help.  Good luck to you.

  3. You really should take her to the vet. If you can't afford to take your animals to the vets when they are hurt or sick then you really shouldn't have animals. It's just not fair on them.

  4. I regret I too have to agree that when you take on an animal, it's not just the initial outlay.  A dog, as they say, is FOR LIFE.  With all that goes with that.

I assume you are in the States - surely, like in the UK, there are organizations where you can take a dog if you are strapped for cash?  And surely also, vets over there, like in the UK, will allow you to make arrangements to stage-pay if you truly run in a big bill.

Get this puppy to a vet please!

  5. It could be just a simple sprain or she also may have stepped on something sharp.  So just watch her closely for a day.  Pamper her a while.

You can also put some ointment on it, just like if you cut your own foot.  Then wrap it with gauze so she doesn't l**k it off.

  6. Call a human society in your area and ask them which vets can help with your vet care.  Some vets will reduce prices or give a billing schedule that is manageable.  You have to take the dog to the vet if she continues to favor her leg.  You should just take her to the local vet ER, tell them that you are frightened about not being able to afford it, they can help you and your dog.  It's not worth sacrificing your dog for money, that's not fair.  You should be able to take care of your dog fully if you're going to have one.  Find a vet who can help you financially.  Many will do what they can to help you out.  Get your pup to the vet if you can't see an obvious reason.  Good luck.

  7. just because it doesn't look broken doesn't mean anything, it could have a fracture that only shows up on x-ray. You can feel her leg to pinpoint the area that is in pain, just be gentle..if she doesn't want to touch her leg and gets nippy then she is in more pain then what the eye can see..I agree with most of the answers all ready by she needs a vet just to rule out anything major..and also their is doggy insurance your parents can look into...just dont let her suffer..

  8. You MUST take this dog to seek some kind of Veterinarian assistance.  If you are this worried that it's a serious injury, then nobody here can tell you what you should do.  Only a trained professional can assist you.

If you can't afford vet bills, you shouldn't have animals. As harsh as that might sound - they can't take care of themselves, they rely on you.

  9. Sorry but i agree with jesh - just because it doesnt look broken, doesnt mean it isn't. have you checked her paws? there might be a thorn or a seed in the pad possibly. but really, you do need to get this poor little thing to a vet.

  10. You need to find a way to get the money to take her to the vet! The only way you are going to know if her leg is broken, is by having her leg x-rayed. If it is broken, then she's in a lot of pain and she needs to have it properly set! It's not fair and it's very cruel, to let her suffer like that. It is actually against the law, if  you have a dog, and that dog is sick or injured, not to take it to the vet for treatment. It is considered Animal Abuse! Honestly, why do you even own a dog, if you can't afford to properly take care of it. Get your dog to the vet. NO EXCUSES!
