i know we may need an HVAC tech to come out to check it out...but if there is something my hubby can check before that it would be great. he knows a little about HVAC but not alot. here is our problem. i have the thermostat set to like 50 and its still 90 in here. (ive now turned it off to not overheat anything). the air unit outside is running and blowing warm air like its suppose to, the lines outside are fine (one warm one cold) everything seems clean (coils and filter). we have some water laying in the vents (maybe condensation? but its alot). its just not blowing hardly any air out of our vents. you can touch the vents and they are cool as if it were blowing some cool air but you cannot feel the air above the vents blowing..and its HOT in here. please...any suggestions or maintence he can do before we call in a prof???

  1. It is quite likely that your interior blower has malfunctioned.  There are multiple causes.  Did anyone turn off the furnace switch located on or next to the furnace?  Is the circuit breaker for the furnace tripped?  Move the handle for it all the way off and then back to the on position.  Is there only one return air intake and is it blocked?

  2. It sounds like the blower motor in the air handler that circulates the cold air over the evaporator coils inside your home is not working. Can you hear the blower running? If that fan is not running, make sure a breaker hasn’t been tripped. Chances are, the motor has gone out and will need to be replaced. You did say the fan outside for the condenser is running, and the compressor should be working if the lines are cold.

If the case is that the blower motor on the evaporator is out, you can use what ever portable fans you have to try and pull air out of the vents, but the blower fan will need to be replaced. These motors are usually less than $100, but someone will need to install it.

I have also seen the evaporator coils inside the air handler freeze up, and you would notice a puddle of water around the unit on the floor or in the vents. In that case you would feel some air coming out of the vents, but it would not be as cold as it should be. It this is the case, switch the thermostat to fan only, turning off the ac, and this will thaw out the coils in the air handler in a hour or so. You may have clogged drain for the evaporator (which drains the condensation away from the air handler), the evaporator coils may be too dirty and need to be cleaned, or you may just have the thermostat turned down too low.

  3. ive had a/c's freeze the lines before, basically everything was working as it should but something froze in it, we had to turn it off for like 3 hours or so so that it could thaw and then it worked like a charm,

if you have  had it running hard for a while it might have done that, im not an expert by any means but i have lived in florida all my life so that has happened a couple of times at different places

  4. if the fan is running but you have no air coming out of registers the first thing to do is replace filter if the fan is not on check the fan switch on the furnace.

if it is not running and switch is on it is time to call in a pro

  5. She's probably just froze.Run the fan ONLY for 20 minutes. If she's froze ,It'll melt the ice and start cooling.

  6. Check return air duct. Check fan switch, some have summer settings, also check fan belts they could be worn and slipping.

Oh! is there a humidifier installed? check the auto switch.

    Good Luck
