I'm really stuck on this one particular problem... please help!

The question says:

A rectangle with side lengths a and 20 is divided into 4 squares as shown. What is the value of a?

I don't know how to go about this problem at all!

Below is the picture of what the rectangle looks like.

 1. Alright, I'll walk you through this one, but no more freebies. In order for the two halves on the left and right to be equal (thus forming squares), they would have to divide the length of 20 by 2. So the large square is 10x10. Since it's a rectangle, the length of 'a' is the same as the length parallel to it. Therefore, a=10. It's a lot simpler than it looks.

 2. that's all the information about the problem? I can't do much with that. Sorry post more info and I'll edit my answrr.

 3. Not enough info. It doesnt tell you whether it is bisected or what.

 4. Shouldn't you be doing your own homework.
