PLEASE HELP!!!...i'm desperate....?!?!?!?!??!?

Question

okay, so my teacher told us to:

" go home, and write a page tonight, and let that page come out of you, and it will be true"

i have NO idea what to write. any ideas??

here is how he got the idea:

The instructor said,

I wonder if it's that simple?

I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salem.

I went to school there, then Durham, then here

to this college on the hill above Harlem.

I am the only colored student in my class.

The steps from the hill lead down into Harlem

through a park, then I cross St. Nicholas,

Eighth Avenue, Seventh, and I come to the Y,

the Harlem Branch Y, where I take the elevator

up to my room, sit down, and write this page:

It's not easy to know what is true for you or me

at twenty-two, my age. But I guess I'm what

I feel and see and hear, Harlem, I hear you:

hear you, hear me---we two---you, me, talk on this page.

(I hear New York too.) Me---who?

Well, I like to eat, sleep, drink, and be in love.

I like to work, read, learn, and understand life.

I like a pipe for a Christmas present,

or records---Bessie, bop, or Bach.

I guess being colored doesn't make me NOT like

the same things other folks like who are other races.

So will my page be colored that I write?

Being me, it will not be white.

But it will be

a part of you, instructor.

You are white---

yet a part of me, as I am a part of you.

That's American.

Sometimes perhaps you don't want to be a part of me.

Nor do I often want to be a part of you.

But we are, that's true!

As I learn from you,

I guess you learn from me---

although you're older---and white---

and somewhat more free.

So. It looks like he is looking for conflict and discrimination. Write about being a girl and not getting recognized because of that fact or do  a narrative....it was a dark and stormy night but nobody gave a rat's laugh because we were supposed to be writing some junk about being left out in this...you guessed it "dark and stormy night". Jeese, I kinda just wanted to spit, but I'm a lady and Mom told me no sitting in puiblic..only on the back 40. etc.,

Take it literally and write a story about how a piece of paper literally came out of you.  Maybe it came out of your nose or your mouth, your ear or something a little bit ruder.  You could write about your horror/fascination of how it happened.  maybe you could write about what was on that paper.  It sounds a little silly, but maybe some things dont have to be so serious all the time :)

Well, I think your teacher wants you to write a page about yourself, not a made-up story.  

Begin with your age and where you live and then write about how you define yourself.  I would help you, but I don't KNOW you! :)  

As an example, though, it might go something like, "I'm an American teenager, not yet an adult, who can't drive, can't vote, and can't smoke. I live in a ______ house on a _______street in the state of ____________. I'm a good listener, a good baker, and a good kisser.  ......mention your likes, dislikes, etc.  

I just had an idea!  You know those forwards people send where you have to answer the 30 questions about yourself?  Like, what you had for breakfast and what you are wearing and whether you are a coke or pepsi drinker?  Look at one of those, and use some of that for details in your paper....

Write sort of poetically about your life and where you came from, who you are, and what you strive to be. It can be silly or serious. But have fun with it--it's a chance to be creative and do whatever you want, as oppose to answering questions from a text book. I had an assignment once titled "Song of Myself" and I wrote about my personality, quirks, likes, dislikes, etc. Hope this helps, and good luck! :D
