  1. If you know what you want look it up on KBB.com to find the invoice price. That will put you in the ballpark for what you should pay. The 2009s will be coming in soon so I would not pay more than invoice since the prices on the 2008s WILL drop when 2009s arrive.

Do NOT tell them you are paying cash. Wait until you have a price they are willing to accept then pay for it after the paperwork is done. If they think you are financing then they could drop the price a little more.

Do NOT need the car right now or from that dealer. If you don't like the deal and they are not willing to work with you walk away. They will almost always chase you down with a lower offer of you walk away.

  2. First of all, never let a dealer know that you have a trade-in right outside, They will want those keys right away. Let them know that your not Green {a newbe} at searching for cars, cause they will use that against you as well. And {NEVER NEVER} let them know that you don't know that much about cars. Car dealers are like attorney's they will do just about anything to sell you a car, even lie, yes lie. But they want short change themselves. Do Your very best acting job.  Never let him know that your hard-up for another car, Infact convince him that you really don't want to give up this REALLY RELIABLE car of yours. Take a Partner with you if you can, someone who does know a lot about cars. But stand surefooted and hold your ground. I'm sure you'll do fine. Wish I was there to help you.  Good Luck.  P.S. Let me know how it turned out if possible.

  3. Well, if you have cash, the ball is already in your court. The only games you have to play with them is negotiating. Just tell them you want to pay $xx,x*x.xx out the door including tags, taxes, etc. Just make sure your starting offer is considerably under their asking price. You'll get worked up to somewhere in the middle.

  4. First or you may need a loan, and most people don;t have that kinda money in cash.  tha is a  preapproved loan but not from a dealer.  I make a fax that covers what car what options and finally what price I will pay.  I send the fax to dealers all around me sometimes out of state.  Since my price is low and I am not going to finance thru them most dealers will laugh.  But some bored guy looking to snap out of a funk might say what the heck and say he will agree to the price.  Be prepaired to get hounded by high pressure sales people.  Just hang up on them if they hound you..

  5. Hold off. Take your Dad or Mom, or a brother, or an uncle with you who has bought other cars and can see that you don't get ripped off. Car salesmen--all of then--no matter how much they smile--are snakes. Sssssssssss. I do mean snakes, Ssssssssss. Small gas efficient cars ar in to stay. Your jeep probably does not fall into that category! Good luck!
