i am going up to see my fiance he is in a school at great lakes.. hotels in downtown chicago are CRAZY expensive.. is there a city near downtown chicago where the hotels arent so bad.. and also they need to be near somekind of ground transportation.. we want to be able to travel on the trams so we dont have to take cabs everywhere.. were getting married at the court house as well..

we are thinking about just staying in Waukegan and just taking the el to downtown for the day and going back.. since the ramada inn is only 95 a night there..

also if i do stay in waukegan, is there any transportation besides a expensive cab that i can take from either midway or ohare to waukegan??

im 19 and am not old enough to rent a car.

sorry i hope i didnt confuse anyone.. thanks!

  1. You can find  hotels all over chicago here http://hotels.americacheaphotels.com/Cit...

  2. Midway Hotel Center theres about 4 or 5 hotels at the center and the train station is walking distance about a 1/2 mile

i live over in that area and the hotels are nice and not too pricey

    the marriot

    the holiday day inn sunspree

    the holiday inn

    Sleep Inn

and a couple more i cant remember

theres a Fridays and Dempseys bar and grill in the parking lot in between all the hotels Dunkin Donuts across the street Target and Walmart in case you forget anything are down the street

    http://www.midwayhotelcenter.com/

    check it outt!!!

  3. In my opinion if your boyfriend can get off the base for the weekend, I would stay in Rosemont, it's just outside of chicago in between O hare and the city limits. There are hotels all over the place and you can get a good deal. Plus they offer shuttles to the Train station which  is the Blue line. The train will take you to downtown and  to O hare. You can transfer from the blue line to the Orange line which takes you to midway. Good luck

  4. Just so ya know, Waukegan is on the Illinois/Wisconsin border and is a looooooooong Metra ride or a very expensive cab ride from Chicago at all, much less downtown Chicago.

Travel between either airport and Waukegan will require a number of transfers, especially since Chicago public transportation doesn't go that far.

And there is NOTHING to do there.

Look on those travel websites for deals; don't go to the hotel itself for prices because they will always give you the most expensive ones.

  5. Well, when I wanted to surprise my husband with an over night stay in the city, I went to Hotwire.com and you can also try hotels.com

I always get better deals. He should also get a military discount. I think from Waukegan you take the metra not the "L" and you get the weekend pass for $5 and use it all weekend. I think its good for buses too. Not positive on that. Go to the Hancock to the 95th floor for dessert. That way you can see the view for the cost of your dessert and not waste the money just to look out the window. Go at night, its so pretty!

Go to chicago websites and look for coupons. You should be able to get a good discount from Hotwire. Cheaphotels.com too.
