PLEASE HELP: what can I do for a guppy with "ich"?

I bought a new guppy today and when I got her into my tank I noticed little white spots on it's fins and head. I'm 90% sure it's ich, but I've never had a fish with this disease before. Will my fish die? and what can I do for it? Ps: I think she's also pregnant.

  1. ONLY get ich medicine as a last resort, it will s***w up your tanks balance. Pet stores(and wal mart) sell salt for fish tanks, it is a special salt that comes in a small container that looks like a cardboard milk carton(you cannot use table salt), buy some of that and follow the dosage on it, I have used this on fish before and it has gotten rid of ich, it does not harm the fish, or your tank's balance- when used as directed. The Ich should go away in a day or two. Fish do not normally die from Ich. Ich normally happens due to stress and extreme temperature changes in a fish's environment.

  2. You should pick up a bottle of Aquarisol as soon as you can, and treat the aquarium as the instructions say.   Left untreated, the fish will die, and probably others too.

Malachite Green is another option but it sometimes doesn't last long and it can stain the silicone of your aquarium, and any plastics you have in there.  Also - some fish can't tolerate it (tetra's...been there, done that).  Don't use this stuff if YOU are expecting - or let anyone pregnant handle it.  It's great for fish, not so great for humans.

  3. If you really think your guppy has ich, read about it on Wikipedia The Free      Encyclopedia and search about ich or Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. All of it are there; including the treatment. Hope you believe in me.

  4. go to a pet store or a supercenter and buy a botle of ich treatment right away, treat the water as directed

  5. Most pet stores carry ich medication which you can use.  Just make sure to follow the package directions.
