ok so i actually wrote a song. and everyone (including my parents) think that the song is "brilliant" and that it needs to be on the radio or something (lol there a little crazy) but i myself agree that the song is very good and it sounds like a song that a rapper would sing.

now that the song is written, and i have a beat to along with it i have NO CLUE what to do next?!? does anyone know where i go from here? to take a step to success and possibly let my song be heard? please i need some answers!!

oh yeah and i forgot a few things:

- i live in the US

- im young..but not that young (if that matters)

- its a rap song

Please i need answers! thank you

  1. First, copyright it. This can be as simple as mailing a copy to yourself by certified mail. When you receive it, don't open it. That will do until you can take more "official" steps.

Once you've mailed it, you are free to send it to song peddlers. These are professionals who are known to musicians and performers and easily found on the net with a search. If they think the song has potential, they'll present the song to their clients. But first...

... check the "answers and advice" on the ASCAP website (left column of the home page).

Good luck, and excuse the obnoxious answers, this is usually a pretty friendly board.

  2. search for publishers on the net and contact them.....it is that simple

  3. Go to Nashville to sell it????   Good luck.

  4. first...get it finished..then you can record it yourself on any decent recorder just to show what the song sounds like..then get it "published' and "copywritten"..then it belongs to you...if you throw it out into the public before that, anyone can take it and copywrite it and at that point, YOU don't own your song anymore(happens all the time!!)....then about the best you can do is send copies of it to every producer(of rap) you can find..you "may' get some bites there...if not, have someone(or yourself)record it,as best as you can get--local recording studio/home studio etc...and at that point, push it to every non-commercial(public or university) radio station you can find listed!  THATS your best shot at getting air time in this day and age.....good luck   ***(I was working in production at a radio station close to Billy Ray Cyrus's territory--and HE made it by making zillions of trips to radio stations around here to plug his recording....he kept on and on and on,and one day--bingo!..God knows he did it through hard work, not on his singing!!)

  5. heres what you do, go here send it to them and let them do it all.......

good luck if you make a million you owe me nothing if its rap song.

  6. Ok after you've done all that, try to find a freind or family member that can rap well, that can just reach your lyrics out to people and let them be heard, then try putting the song on the internet, performing it in public for free and just spreading it around, asking peoples opinions. After that, if all goes well, I would try calling small recording studios, maybe doing some auditions, and asking them their opinions. Start small and try to make it to it's full potential...

  7. call your local radio station and ask them what you would have to do to get your song played on theyre station and where you would go to record a music back track. (the beat)

  8. for a start, record yourself performing it and get it on youtube! there's some great exposure to be had there!

  9. Okay, first you should probably find out how to go about patenting your song so noone can rip it off, I'm sure there is somewhere in your own city that you can go to patent something and make it legally yours. You'll have to google that because I've never done it.

Second you may have to google some places or agents you can send  the song to for review.

Third you can try what one marine I know does and he posts his music up on MySpace and then tries to make his page something people would want to check over in hopes a sponser will discover him.

    Well good luck.
