i am on day 44 of my cycle, which usually lasts 30-35 days. my last period was july 20-26. i am in a relationship (5 years) and am sexually active. we use protection. i want to say that one time, the condom was not put on until after intercourse began. however, i could be paranoid. the condoms never broke (at least not to our knowledge).

being about 10 days late, i have taken pregnancy tests (3) starting last week. i took one this morning as well. they have been negative, but no period. i will be getting a blood test (i know they're more accurate), but that won't be until friday (why spend the money if i've taken tests and my period could possibly show?). i posted yesterday, but i had another question...

i was wondering how many of you have been pregnant, but got negatives on hpt's?? how far along were you? and how long did it take for you to get a positive?

many have said that if you're late (like me by 10 days) that it should show up on a test. others say that it is possible not to have enough hCG. i'm educated on s*x-ed and how hormones work. i'm just very curious as to whether or not people have been in the same boat as me, and what the outcome was.

so....if you got negatives on a pregnancy test, how late were you? did you turn out to be pregnant or not? and if so, how long did it take to get a positive result??

  1. OK I will try to answer this as clinically as possible,

HCG is the hormone that is produced in your body as the fetus cells multiply, it increases and it is in blood and urine, the blood test you can determine how many quantity and then aproximatley 3 days later have another blood test to make sure the HCG is going up and not down, (if it is going down or not up enough it is most likely going to end up with a miscarriage)

The urine test just detects the HCG hormone is present, sure there are false negatives which means the baby has not multiplied enough times to show the hormone in your body.  Generally they say 4 days after a missed period is a good time to test and you can follow every 4 days there after.

Several reasons for missed periods are stress, weight gain or loss, hightened physical activity, and certain medicines.

Personnally I would wait unless you really have and want to spend the money on the test, otherwise if it is ment to be it will come.

  2. Well, I was about 8 days late and got a negative hpt on a Saturday.  Went for the blood test on Monday and it was positive.  I was probably around 5 weeks along.  That pregnancy didn't work out for me, but it was related to low progesterone only.

Good Luck!  The blood test won't lie!

  3. I was due on a Tuesday and took four tests during the next week that were all negative.  The test the following Wednesday (8 days later) finally showed positive.  Barely a line...but positive none the less.  I had an appt. with the Dr. the same day and they also got a positive on a urine test...same result..barely there but still there.

I had no symptoms this early...just missing my period.

Good luck and I hope you get the outcome you are looking for!!

  4. some people never show on a urine test.

my mum didnt and she swore to the doctor she was preg. he tested her for 4 months before finally giving her a blood test which showed positive (she was by now 5 months preg).

if your period doesnt show up by friday have the blood test.

i had a urine test not work at all on me (even the control line didnt come up) i bought an el cheapo one and peed on that the same day and it came up within 3 seconds i was pregnant.

i would personally in your case get the blood test done.

  5. My 3rd pregnancy I got a neg on CD33 and ++ on CD36, this one I had a neg hcg AND 3 neg hpt's before finally getting a ++ hcg on CD 38

  6. When I was pregnant with my first son who is 2 yrs old now I was almost three weeks late and I had take about 5 tests and they all came back negative. By the time I had missed my second period in a row adn was over 8 weeks late I took a cheap test from a dollar store and it came back positve. With my second child things were different I took a test as soon as I was two weeks late and it was positive. My cycle is 28 days and my last period was July 22 . I know im at least two or three weeks late but the pregnancy test showed faded lines a false positive and now I have to wait until I go to my doctor on Sept 16th when i will have missed two periods by then and hopefully I will know tat I am expecting my third baby and nothing else is wrong since I am already having signs of morning sickness, mood swings, and aching b*****s. I hope you find out everything soon
