  1. I don't know where you should post, but I will tell you this.  A lot of people in my apartment building - and it is a large apartment building - have polite notices on their mail boxes refusing junk mail, flyers, etc.  It started with just one person, and now the majority of tenants have joined in.  I've told friends of mine, who have started to put notices on their mail boxes in their buildings.  It is such a waste and the majority of people do not like or want all the junk mail that is crammed into their mail boxes - and I mean crammed, there is so much of it.  This is one way the message can get passed on.

Your idea is also a good one; if enough people returned whatever they could to the source, the senders would certainly get the message. Good for you for wanting to make more people aware and take some kind of action.

EDIT:  I did a little research and the best place to post would be "Green Living" in the Environment section (same section as Conservation), although Conservation is also a good place for such a posting.  Also, the following is an except I found at the "Green Living Tips" site - go to the site for the full story:

    >>Stopping Junk Mail:

According to some statistics, an average adult in the USA receives a whopping 41 pounds of junk mail a year and approximately 44% of this mail winds up in a landfill without having been opened. That's a lot of trees, water and other resources being wasted. Pick up some tips on stemming the junk mail flow.

  2. returning junk mail via prepaid envelopes would increase the amount of fuel wasted on snailmail.

There are organisations out there that you can give a small amount of money to, that will contact all of the direct marketing companies and remove you from their mailing lists. You can also get yourself off of the Pre-qualified credit card lists by filling out a form similar to the Do Not Call List.

  3. Great IDEA!, maybe post it in "Society"
