I tried running housecall but it said it couldn't delete the malware, trojans etc that it found after it scanned my computer for 3 hours. My desktop's background has been changed to this stupid balloon smiling and I can't right click to remove it. There are pop ups that come on every few seconds, stuff downloading - I have lost control of my computer. I had to uninstall Norton because it made my computer way too slow and non functional. I am weary of downloading more c**p from online to remove the viruses. It seems to get worse and worse. There's also some windows/frat/exe black window that pops up about every 5 minutes. SO annoying. PLEASE HELP if you know a solution. If you live in LA I can pay you to come down and do it yourself. I'm so fed up and want y computer back. I disabled the startup junk in msconfig which helped a tiny bit, but it says my firewall is disabled and it doesn't respond to unclicking it.

  1. I would suggest that you format your C: drive. Formatting is bound to remove any virus or malware. Your case seems to be a serious one; so unless you have some very important data on that partition that you don't have a back up of,  I would vote for a full format and then reinstalling Windows.

The downside with formatting is that you will need to install everything again--any office application, any games or other software that you might have installed has to be installed again.

Maybe not relevant to your question, but why don't you shift to Linux? If it is a personal use computer, and you are not much into gaming, Linux would be a good choice.

Linux is an operating system like MS Windows. You can get it for free and legally. It is considered to be more secure than Windows, but on the debit side it needs some expertise with computers that many people do not have.

  2. Do you have a set of back up Cd's for your OS?  Hopefully you made a  set when you purchased you compeer // if not shame on you // however // depending on your rig you should be able restore the unit to a previous date before the trouble started. If not ! there are several programs out there that can cure the problem // do not try to down load from a web-site as the viruses that have invaded your system will over ride any attempt to clean up the virus commands.

Fry's and Best Buy can help That's you cheep-est way out. Plus you will learn how to avoid the BS that's out there.

Remember always back up your system and viable files on either an external drive or disks.

    Good Luck
