  1. The planet Venus is an example of runaway global warming.  Temperatures are more than 800 F.  Any life that might have been there has been exterminated.

  2. Sorry, can not help as there is no scientific evidence supporting you r thesis. Good luck.

  3. My opinion is that no matter what we do (drive hybrid cars, use energy saving light bulbs, or recycle our waste) our species is headed for extinction.

  4. People are worried about our economy, spending the millions, billions probably trillions to fix what we've done to the planet. So we won't, we'll just sit here and let it get so bad to the point that we can't fix it. But if there's no planet, there's no us and there will certainly be no economy.

The Earth's Biodiversity is not replaceable, once it's gone, it's gone.

  5. i think we are being punished for the bad things mommy and daddy did but whatever.  you should start with a number like did you know that Earth's population produces more and more carbon dioxide EVERY YEAR or maybe in 2050..... check out

  6. Global warming -- a gradual increase in planet-wide temperatures -- is now well documented and accepted by scientists as fact. A panel convened by the U.S National Research Council, the nation's premier science policy body, in June 2006 voiced a "high level of confidence" that Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, and possibly even the last 2,000 years. Studies indicate that the average global surface temperature has increased by approximately 0.5-1.0°F (0.3-0.6°C) over the last century. This is the largest increase in surface temperature in the last 1,000 years and scientists are predicting an even greater increase over this century. This warming is largely attributed to the increase of greenhouse gases (primarily carbon dioxide and methane) in the Earth's upper atmosphere caused by human burning of fossil fuels, industrial, farming, and deforestation activities.

Average global temperatures may increase by 1.4-5.8ºC (that's 2.5 - 10.4º F) by the end of the 21st century. Although the numbers sound small, they can trigger significant changes in climate. (The difference between global temperatures during an Ice Age and an ice-free period is only about 5ºC.) Besides resulting in more hot days, many scientists believe an increase in temperatures may lead to changes in precipitation and weather patterns. Warmer ocean water may result in more intense and frequent tropical storms and hurricanes. Sea levels are also expected to increase by 0.09 - 0.88 m. in the next century, mainly from melting glaciers and expanding seawater . Global warming may also affect wildlife and species that cannot survive in warmer environments may become extinct. Finally, human health is also at stake, as global warming may result in the spreading of certain diseases such as malaria, the flooding of major cities, a greater risk of heat stroke for individuals, and poor air quality.

Climate change is very likely having an impact now on our planet and its life, according to the latest installment of a report published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). And the future problems caused by rising seas, growing deserts, and more frequent droughts all look set to affect the developing world more than rich countries, they add. The report is the second chapter of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment -- the most comprehensive summary yet of research into the causes and effects of climate change. Factors

    Greenhouse Gases

The increase in greenhouse gases caused by human activity is often cited as one of the major causes of global warming. These greenhouse gases reabsorb heat reflected from the Earth's surface, thus trapping the heat in our atmosphere. This natural process is essential for life on Earth because it plays an important role in regulating the Earth's temperature. However, over the last several hundred years, humans have been artificially increasing the concentration of these gases, mainly carbon dioxide and methane in the Earth's atmosphere. These gases build up and prevent additional thermal radiation from leaving the Earth, thereby trapping excess heat.

    Solar Variability & Global Warming

Some uncertainty remains about the role of natural variations in causing climate change. Solar variability certainly plays a minor role, but it looks like only a quarter of the recent variations can be attributed to the Sun. At most. During the initial discovery period of global warming, the magnitude of the influence of increased activity on the Sun was not well determined.

Solar irradiance changes have been measured reliably by satellites for only 30 years. These precise observations show changes of a few tenths of a percent that depend on the level of activity in the 11-year solar cycle. Changes over longer periods must be inferred from other sources. Estimates of earlier variations are important for calibrating the climate models. While a component of recent global warming may have been caused by the increased solar activity of the last solar cycle, that component was very small compared to the effects of additional greenhouse gases. According to a NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) press release, "...the solar increases do not have the ability to cause large global temperature increases...greenhouse gases are indeed playing the dominant role..." The Sun is once again less bright as we approach solar minimum, yet global warming continues.

GLOBAL WARMING HAS TO STOP BEFORE WE ALL DIE.

HUMANS MADE THIS MESS AND HUMANS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN CLEAN IT UP!

  7. I am absolutely blown away by the number of people who still believe that global warming is a "myth", a "hoax", and if not then our use of carbon emissions and depletion of vegetation that converts carbon dioxide to oxygen (hellooo cellular respiration?) is not a factor in climate change. Seriously guys... I know this is new and shocking science that obviously deserves critical speculation, but the evidence is now blatenly clear and even republicans and the scientists who they pay to c**p out billion dollar studies to justify our current lifestyles have lost the race.

To answer your question, to start your paper I would target a particular issue that highlights the urgency of the issue. One in particular that affects western Canada (and I think a bit of Northern US), is the mountain pine beetle epidemic. Basically, what has happened, is that a naturally present pine beetle that infests old and weak lodgepole pine trees (which keeps the forest healthy) has increased in population due to two major factors. 1) The suppression of natural forest fires, which normally create buffer zones that limit the beetle's migration, and  2) The increase in winter temperatures. Because there has not been a cold snap in January/February, which is usually -40degrees Celsius, since 1990 the population has increased very dramatically and has quite literally created an epidemic. Because of the size of the population, the pine beetle targets younger and stronger trees. Entire forests are dead and drying out. This is particularily devastating to logging, as the quality and value of the wood is decreased due to the bluestain fungus that the beetle leaves behind. Logging corporations have come up with short-term solutions to this problem - which essentially is to expand logging to mimic the buffer zones that forest fires create. The hydrology of the forests are also affected and have adverse affects on surrounding interacting ecosystems communities.

But to grab their attention, I would choose a particular issue that affects your local community. If you live on the coast, then the rising sea levels are certainly one.

    Good luck!

  8. Calling it 'warming' has confused people. It is global 'climate change,' and, while warming is part of it, it also entails cooling. It is not 'either-or' but 'and.' It is climate instability, not just warming, and creatures dependent upon climate stability are threatened by instability. They need time to adapt, and instability may deny them that time.

Man's effect is a recent phenomenon of the last 150 years. In 1850, it is estimated there were 1 billion humans on planet Earth. By 1925, only 75 years later, there were 2 billion. But they were vaporizing mountains of coal and oceans of oil, in addition to burning grass and wood and animal dung. They had untold numbers of machines vaporizing fossil fuels, pumping tons of carbon into the planet's ecosystem.

In just 37 more years (1962) there were 3 billion humans, and millions of cars and trucks and boats and planes and lawnmowers and tractors and...you get the idea. In only 14 more years (1976) there were 4 billion humans, and by 1986 (only 10 more years) there were 5 billion.

For some reason the latest estimates are that there are only 6 and one-half billion.  After the rapid increases of the last 150 years I don't know why that would be true, although millions have died in wars and drought.

But even if you take man out of the equation, global climate change is something Mother Nature does on her own. The last 11 thousand years (since the end of the last ice age) where man evolved the global lifestyle we have in 2008 have been abnormally stable.

There was a period called the 'Little Ice Age' where the Earth cooled (1300's to 1800's I think), killing crops and disrupting life for many people, but other than that it has been a fairly stable period.

But in the 600,000 years prior to it there were much hotter periods and much colder periods lasting 100's, maybe 1,000's of years at a time. That wide-ranging climate change is Mother Nature's norm; and it's likely she'll get back to it. Man may push Her to the 'tipping points' that cause it. Our sheer numbers and the quantity of our carbon pollutions are significant factors.

The relatively short period of man's increase from 1 billion to 6 and a half billion, and vaporization of mountains of coal and oceans of oil could be attention-getters. www.garyeandrews.com www.sustain360.org

  9. you could open up with something about how global warming can make the sea levels rise, or something with the exreme temps. like relate that issue to something and go from there. you should def look up things online and go find some books on it. theres movies too done on the topic. um. my opinion on global warming is that i beliebe in it and not that its just something normal. but you can see the facts specially in how the ice is melting and causing species of animals to lose their homes and such. also with the extreme temp a lot of diseases can come back that arent around now. but im totally for the entire going green thing. it wont hurt anything by doing it rather than do nothing. hope that helped a bit.

  10. Global warming is a hoax; a socialist conspiracy to spread Western wealth around the world.  The latest data is suggesting that the earth is entering a COOLING stage.

  11. Put in your paper that if Al Gore Can Fly around on Private jets. The Kennedy family and many Hollywood liberals do.

Since these people are the ones that claim to care the most.

Then they should set the biggest example.

The fact that they set such a poor example tells the rest of us that one, global warming is a hoax or two the ones that claim to care the most really don't.

  12. Title schould be:

    The fight: Earth vs Humanity

Start out with a did you know blah blah blah... but find a really good fact for the did you know...

my opinions on global warming is that the baby boomers have ruined my future.... my earth

  13. the polar caps are melting at an alarming rate. freezing is 32 and when you get to 34 or even 36 any wisconsinite will tell you how fast it melts then especially if the sun is shining.

Watch an inconvientant truth that is filled with facts and attention getting figures.

if people choose not to believe that is fine..have them move up to alaska where global warming/changes are WAY MORE OBVIOUS.

slowing down gloabl warming..if every family planted 4 trees a year that would make a HUGE differeance in the green house gas effects.

  14. Global warming is a bunch of fake c**p made up by fat old Al gore. Duh people don't you have a mind. AL GORE WANTS ATTENTION!! And so does the media, that is how they make money!!!! And the glaciers ARE NOT MELTING you idiots!!!!!!!!! They are growing at a rate larger than the world has ever seen LOOK IT UP!!!! Al gore and the news made it all up. 4/5 of the worlds enviromenatlist don't belive in global warming!! So Al gore talks about how we need to stop "global warming" and hten he flys off in his private jet haha and i almost forgot he also goes in his 10 million dollar mantsion with all the electricity hmmmmmmmmmmm.

  15. First off, I think it would be a good idea for people to state also their career, education status (or even what their degree was or is in). Maybe you'll make connections with what people say and whay they do.

I know global warming exists. It's is a natural process of the earth to cool and warm. HOWEVER, I am not saying that the movie "the day after tomorow" or any holywood movie is any where close to accurate about what global warming is. People are so concerned about the politics of it all: Liberal=believe in global warming and Conservatives=believe it's a lie from the liberal media.

Honestly, the ice caps are melting, and they will raise the sea level, which will cause flooding. Now the real issue isn't that our world is going to end. The pollution we are emitting and waste we are dumping is killing our planet. The rainforests will be gone in 2030, and marine life is expected to be gone in 2050 by scientists.

    My story with global warming:

I snorkled a lot of the coral reefs in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Coral is usually colorful except when it dies from various things. Coral is dying in masses from the raise in temperature and sea level-this is called coral bleaching. When the coral dies so does the life that surrounds the coral. Surely soon sea life will become extinct, but bleaching is only one of the causes out of many.
