Question:

PLEASE help with my Jeep!?

My car is a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I had to replace the engine, so we bought a used one from LKQ. My brother installed everything…but the whole engine still shook violently. So I took it to a shop and they tell me I need a new alternator and possibly a new computer. I have the alternator tested somewhere else and he tells me it is fine, it’s just the computer that is causing it to put out 17 volts instead of 14. So I buy a used computer from LKQ…

Also, in the short drive to the shop, fuel had gotten into the oil and also ruined my spark plugs. So they replaced them.

Now the computer is installed…but it needed to be flashed to match my car. So we take it to the Jeep dealership to have this done. I also ask them to replace the oil. He calls me and says they have the computer all set and the car is running, but that it is misfiring. He said it could be the spark plugs, could be a fuel injector, but to find out I would be charged more money of course. Which I just don’t have!

  1. It may not be possible to guess your way out of this, maybe they can diagnose it for a reasonable fee. After all,if new plugs don't fix it,what's next? Some times we get trapped and have to decide between the lesser of two evils. Good luck

  2. How did fuel get into the oil? You are getting the run around. If there is still fuel in the oil you have to find out why that is happening first then try and fix the rest of it. If it was truly a used engine and not remanufactured then you have to find out how good the rings around the pistons in the engine are. Do a cylinder compression test. If one of them is not the same amount of pressure as the rest that could lead to the rings being bad. Good Luck

  3. sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is leaking.the vacuume line attatched to it is pulling raw fuel into the intake manifold fouling the spark plugs and the excess unburned fuel is contaminating the oil
