ive asked this many times before but NO ONE answers my question.

this is my conflict of stargirl by jerry spinelli:

The conflict of the story is that Stargirl is a different person. She isn’t the same as everyone else. She wants to be herself while everyone doesn’t. But when everyone begins to have problems with her differences, they can’t handle it. They don’t understand why Stargirl has to be so different, and why she isn’t like them. They do not like her for this. Now that Leo is dating her, no one talks to him because he is dating a very unpopular person. He encourages her to become normal and be like everyone else.

in addition to this, i need to write if this conflict is internal or external. so my question is = is my conflict internal or external!!!

  1. internal/external

    idk!

  2. My view is this is an external conflict because stargirl is being herself . It seems to me that everyone else is the problem. What if stargirls difference was race, should she change her color because no one else can accept it? No. so this is definetley an external conflict.

  4. I want you to think about the story.  The themes:

    THEMES - THEME ANALYSIS

The importance of being one's self:  Stargirl was not comfortable changing to being more………

The importance of knowing what is really important:  Stargirl seemed to have her ……..

The interconnectedness of everyone:  When Stargirl attended the funeral of Anna Grisdale

    Conflict of the story

Protagonist - The protagonist was Stargirl. a new student at Mica Area High School.

Antagonist - The antagonist was Hillari Kimble, a student who never liked Stargirl, not even ……

Climax - The climax of the story was Stargirl's return to an empty parking lot upon……

The story is about a girl who was home schooled and is now in public school.  She seems to be having trouble fitting in with the other children because of her free spirit.  I think that her awkwardness and her desire to maintain her individuality is an internal conflict.  I think there is also some obvious external conflict going on in the story because of the attitudes of the students.

Are you writing your essay from Stargirls point of view?  Write about how she is so different from the other students, how she refuses to reform to the idea everyone must be the same.  Show how she deals with the conflict caused by her uniqueness. Use examples like when she plays a birthday song for someone, how she gets kicked off the track team because she won't finish the race.  I think she is trying to find a way to belong yet maintain her own self.
