1. No man thats probably the RAM, which is normal. to check the hard drive SPACE go to >my computer> right click on the hard drive [which is usally C: or D: and it will tell you how kuch space you got. PC memory is diff from hard drive space.

  2. I don't think they make computers with 2GB hard drives any more, lol

You are making a very common mistake. You are confusing primary storage with secondary storage. Primary storage is the main memory, that is the Random Access Memory (RAM). This is a temporary memory. The computer is using this memory only to bring data from your permanent memory to the attention of the processor.

Secondary storage refers to your hard disk, which is 250GB. This is your permanent memory. It represents all your data and it's like a library.

You computer can't work with all the 250GB at once just like you can't go to a library open all the books there and start reading from them simultaneously. You computer can work with up to 2GB at a time of those 250GB, which is pretty good!

  3. 250 is the hard disk, you are looking at the ram size, you are fine, 2GB is great these days

  4. Nop memory is different from harddrive space.

Memory is used by Processor only.

Harddrive is used for storing date.

My computer and right click C drive and properties to view size.

  5. That just means youre using 800MBs of your ram running whatever apps youre running. Right now I'm using 1.48GBs of ram, 37% of my 4GBs. Youre using 40%. Normal behavior. when you quit an app you free up ram to use somewhere else. Ram is cleared when you boot up and it starts all over again. Nothing to worry about. Everythings fine. If you wanna free up some ram then shut some apps off. Can do that going into msconfig startup and unchecking progs you dont need starting up and running all the time. Dell has that monitoring software that is useless in my opinion. Could start by unchecking its box. Doesn't uninstall it. Just doesn't have it running and bugging you all the time.

  6. The 250GB hard drive allows storage of your programs.

The 2GB of *memory* is the RAM in the system, and is what is used by the programs stored on the hard drive while they are running.

Two different things - Windows and any other running programs are likely using about 800MB of RAM, leaving you the 1.2GB remaining - plenty for running most programs.

Bottom line - you have nothing to worry about. Read up regarding the differences between storage/hard drives, and RAM - they are two different things.

  7. Memory is NOT hard drive space, it is the ram the machine needs to store programs and data while using it. There is no direct relationship between the 2. And people who answer this that you must format the machine should stick to answering cooking questions as they obviously have no knowledge of computers and are dangerous to your system's health..
