What is the boiling point of a solution of 25.0 g of C3H8O3 in 250 g C2H5OH? Kb for C2H5OH is 1.19ºC/m and the boiling point of C2H5OH is 78ºC.

    dT = Kb x molality = Kb x (mol C3H8O3 / kg C2H5OH)

    The molar mass of C3H8O3 is 92.0 g/mol.

    25.0 g C3H8O3 x (1 mol / 92.0 g) = 0.272 mol

    dT = 1.19 C/m x 0.272 mol / 0.250 kg = 1.29 C

    The boiling point is raised 1.29 C

    BP = 78 + 1.29 = 79.29 C
