  1. Just to let you green party people know, if you were really concerned with the environment, you would know to avoid water driven energy.   Water in the atmosphere heats up the earth more than CO2 gases could ever dream of!! LOL!!  But since humans have such little control over mother nature, it really doesn't matter what you use: but know that it is extraordinary that you care about the environment.  Read an astronomy book that came before the hype, and not an Al Gore lie (which he had 35 errors in his movie btw; just google it for numerous links, but here is one anyway http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/monckt... )

It is also worth noting that volcanoes play a much larger role in global temperature than humans, and the disparity is not even close.

  2. Depends on the location.  Hydro won't work for spit in regions without water or a change in elevation.  Solar energy will be reduced in regions covered with clouds most of the time; though, advances in solar panels have enabled them to still produce good quantities of electricity on cloudy days.

  3. hydro energy

    Pro's

    massive amounts of power

    Con's

creates a humongous reservoir which floods the parts of the river leading up to it

    $$$$$$$$$$$

    not all rivers work

    Solar energy

    Pro's

    Sounds good

    renewable

    Con's

    not very efficient

    not very widespread

    $/watt is greater than hydro

not everywhere has enough sunlight to be viable

    panels have 10-15% efficiency

    need lots of land

if i had to pick i would pick hydro cheaper generation costs more efficient overall more established

  4. i would prefer hydro cause you would always have a reliable source of energy that wont cause contraversies between neighbors and other people, but the downside is that you would have to live next to a river or something. versus solar where during the day it powers whatever and stores into a battery and uses the battery at night and if you watch the news then you will notice the contraversie between solar powerd homeowners and neighbors with trees, and the law states that if you have a tree and it obstructs a solar panel it must be cut down, and it doesnt matter wich one was there first. so its about even on the pros and cons. so maybe you should include wind in there and see what kinda answers you get. good luck

  5. Hydro  IS solar. How do you think the water gets up into the high places?

Both have their place in our energy future, as does ethanol, algae, wind, wave, and geothermal.

  6. I'm going to say solar, but solar-thermal, not photovoltaic;

    1. Solar thermal can be mounted anywhere, giving the highest usgae per generated watt.

    2. Solar thermal is more benign than traditional hydro generation and avoids the greenhouse gas release from flooding a reservior for a hydro plant.

    3. Solar thermal is more versitile - you can generate electricity with it and use the waste heat to warm a building, saving on heating fuel use as well.

    4. Solar thermal is scalable - you can build it anywhere from 5 watts to multi-megawatts.
