    Canada's oldest city, it was settled by the French in 1608 as a trading post. It was the capital of New France from 1663 to 1763, when it was lost to the British. It was the capital of Lower Canada 1791 – 1841 and Canada East 1841 – 67. It became the provincial capital of Quebec in 1867.

    ↓Weather and Climate

    Quebec City has a humid continental climate characterized by cold and snowy winters, warm and rather humid summers, and ample precipitation throughout the year. Quebec City is one of the snowiest cities in Canada.  The transitional seasons, spring and autumn, are rather short.  The summer is the wettest season.

    ↓Landscape

    Part of the city is built on the waterfront and is called Lower Town.  Upper Town is on Cape Diamond, a bluff rising 300 ft  above the St. Lawrence. Winding, narrow streets link the two sections of the city.

    ↓Geology

    Quebec City is part of the St. Lawrence Platform and the Greenville Province.

    ↓Natural Resources

    Quebec City is surrounded by forestry, agriculture (dairy, hogs, maple syrup and corn) and mining (diamond, gold, uranium, nickel, iron, copper and kimberlite).
