  1. volounteer at a hospital..

  2. Get rid of the drugs

  3. Every community needs dedicated, uncorruptable civil servants. Voting helps that. Getting involved in local support organizations, like women's shelters, food banks, and hunger relief are huge improvements since most communities today have some level of poverty. Simply getting to know our neighbors and lending a hand to the elderly or disabled on the street is really important. In fact, if we all did some of that, we'd be improving the community where it really counts.

  4. Prostitutes.

  5. open centres for teens, cleaning the litter up, having parks locked up at night to stop vandalism, helping old people go shopping, or do their shopping for them, give kids soemthing to do on a weekend instead of buying booze

  6. Get involved with volunteering, there are many organizations that need volunteers.

  7. My standard response:

    In and around schools, you can:

    * create picnic tables or benches for the school campus - for high school / middle / or elementary

    * repaint the lines on the outdoor [basketball/volleyball/ hopscotch/4 corner etc.] court - for high / middle / elementary

    * repaint any of the jungle gym type equipment that exist at most elementary schools

    * paint a mural on a wall inside

    * help put away library books

    * do some fundraising!  how do you do that - and have a good time at the same time?  get pictures of instructors and set up a contest where students vote for their favorite teacher - each cent counts as 1 vote.  The winner gets...something trivial.

    Community:

    * check churches

    * check hospitals

    * check old-folks' homes

    * check animal shelters...or combine 2 things - take your dog/cat to an old folks' home!

    * check local branches of national organizations (American red cross, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Race for the Cure, 4-H, etc.)

    * check with the chamber of commerce

    * check with the Mayor's office

    * check with the local parks and rec office - build those picnic tables or benches at a local park

    * call your local Boy Scout / Girl Scout troop - because potential Eagle / Gold scouts have to run a service project and often need people-power to make it happen

    * reading for the blind

    * read books to children in daycare

  8. etiquette and morality classes. just having that would improve somany things right off the bat!

  9. local bus rides so instead of taking cars to shopping etc. if we had little buses we could met people & save gas
