I have received the I-20. I wanted to know if US embassy cares about the undergraduate transcripts? Would it negatively effect if one is having poor undergraduate grades but has received the I-20? If so, then how can one convince the counselor in the US embassy to get visa in spite of poor grades form undergraduate?

  1. Having a valid I-20 is mandatory, and does indicate that the student has been accepted into the school, but it does not obviate the need to bring your transcripts to your visa interview.  If you did not do well in school in your own country and in your own language, how would you expect to be seen as a legitimate student in a foreign country and in a different language?  Even if you received your undergraduate degree in the US, if your grades were poor, it might be seen that you not a serious student, and that you are using a graduate program to simply extend your stay in the US.
