PNB Paribas Masters, Andy Roddick makes his way into third round in Paris
The professional tennis ace, Andy Roddick from the United States of America showed his serving prowess to post an emphatic victory against Jarkko Nieminen in the opening match of the day at the 2010 PNB Paribas Masters Men’s singles competition on Wednesday.
The final match score was 6-1, 6-4.
The 28-year-old Roddick as a result of this win has also improved his chances of earning a place in the year ending finale in London, which is set to start later this month.
The former World number one Roddick, who made his debut on the ATP World Tour back in 2000 today overwhelmed Jarkko to make his way into the third round at the BNP Paribas Masters, an ATP World Tour 1000 competition contested in Paris.
Roddick, who currently resides in Texas, is a top tennis player from the United States of America. He is ranked number eight in the South African Airways ATP list. The American has so far won just a single Grand Slam trophy in his career back in 2003 at
the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York. He overpowered Juan Carlos Ferrero in the title battle to lift his maiden crown. He along with the world number two Roger Federer is the only contender to have been listed in the ATP top ten
at season-end from 2002 through 2009 in a row.
Roddick started off his today’s match on a high note and broke his opponent’s serve during the second and then sixth game to take the opening set 6-1. The decisive set did not change the story initially as the American broke Jarkko’s serve early enough to
later maintain the single break lead and seal a win in the end. He closed out the battle in just sixty-two minutes to make his way into the third round in Paris.
World number eight never looked to be in trouble versus the Finn and didn't face a single break point as he broke Jarkko on a total of three occasions to take a step further in his attempt to qualify for the year finale in London.
Second up on the centre court is last year’s winner and World number three Serbian Novak Djokovic, who will meet an in-form David Nalbandian for a berth in the final sixteen of the year’s final Masters Series competition.
