  1. Betsy, do not fight with poison ivy, it is a dangerous beast. It is TOXIC, Both the poison ivy which grows to just a foot and the PI vine are lethal weapons. They contain an oil which is the  toxic aspect, and if you come in contact with it you most certainly have a re-action to it, the severity of which depends on how your body copes with it. Here is the simple easy way, which will not pollute your water source, or yous pleasure pool. The solution???? ROUND_UP...Spray the vine, leave it for one week,, should do the job, but if you are not happy, spray it again, leave for a further 7 days so that the oil becomes inactive, this will kill the vine for sure right down to the darned deepest root. This information comes from the "Police Notebook",  Univercity of Oklahoma Police Department. Hope it helps.

  2. When we moved from the city to the woods by Lake hUron my mom went out to do some weeding. Well she had poison ivy everywhere!!So bad it would bleed! She had it for years and you can still get it from the clothes you wore and the shoes so wash everything well.

Then spray the heck outta it with roundup!

Roundup isn't as bad as you might think and if some does get into your well it will be diluted enough not to hurt you.

    Good luck with the itch!

  3. Oh I feel your pain..I ended up in the emergency room last summer when I was pulling poison ivy berries (didn't know they exsisted until last year) by hand know doubt and ended up looking pretty much like your twin. I stay far away from the stuff now, many people assume that a dead plant is harmless and this is NOT true, the Urushiol oil which is what causes the allergic reaction can stay active on surfaces including dead plants for up to 5 years, scary huh.. what I usually do now is pay landscapers to get rid of it for me...it costs maybe 150.00 and I don't have to step anywhere in it's personal space. If you waht more information on this lovely plant you can go to poisonivy.org which has aload of wonderful information and can connect you to a wealth more....hope this helps... and remember leaves of three leave them be : )

  4. the only way is to pull it out, but wear thick gloves.

you can use weed killers, but if not a ggo brand it wount kill the roots and it will just grow back

what ever you do dont burn it. if you inhale the smoke it can cause an infection in your lungs and can cause irritation and trouble breathing because the posion ivy burning is making the smoke poisonous.

you can also leave it alone and block it with a nice fence or colorful flowers

  5. There is special weed killer for it.  Don't mess with it by hand as no matter how careful you thing you are being, the rash appears in three days.
