FYI- I'm looking into majoring in creative writing/english, but wanted to see what about these two schools (aside from name) was appealing to other people.

  1. They are at opposit ends of the ivy spectrum and for very different creatures.

Columbia, with it's core has the most prescribed course load of any ivy or top school. You need to want to love the classics.

Brown has the least prescribed, there are no mandatory classes and you can take any class pass/fail.

  2. It depends won what you want to major in, and NO Cornell does not beat both considering Columbia ranks 8th in the nation beating both of them.

  3. VISIT them and I'm sure you will be able to decide for yourself.  No matter how much I research and thought and talked to people, the only thing that helped with my college decision was making the road trips there and visiting the actual place.

(By the way, Cornell beats both of them!  But Brown is a close second, in my opinion.)
