Many believe he was mentally weak and lost confidence from the match.

To tell you the truth, I think Karlovic outmatched Fed in that game because I noticed how he was able to volley and serves at 130-140mph from such an angle (due to his sheer height).

This guy had good reflexes and always manipulates Fed whenever he approaches the net (which was most of his service games).

Fed definitely lost to Simon due to his confidence ( that's what I believe) at Toronto but for this game, I'll have to think Karlovic outmatched him. This guy definitely will be in the top 10 in no time.

  1. I think at the beginning of the year, it was the sickness.

But with all the losses, he lost a lot of confidence, and now he still doesn't have it back.

I don't think he will get it back this year.

And now, I believe (if I am doing the math right), he has lost his world number one ranking as well.

All these are heavy blows to Fed's confidence.

  2. I never seen the match, but im surprised roger lost to ivo.

  3. idk

  4. I think the reason he lost today was really he was demoralized. He's played close matches with Karlovic before and played many tiebreaks, but in those matches he was able to win the important points. Today you saw he did not play well in either tiebreak and as a result he lost the match.

Edit: But no doubt Karlovic played probably one of the best matches of his career, and all credit goes to him. His strategy was superb. He did not concentrate much on Federer's service games as he knew breaking Federer would take a tremendous effort. He knew he would have to take care of his own service games, which he did, and get to the tiebreak where he could have a very good chance. Repeatedly they said he looked tired and they said to let go of the second set, which is exactly what he did, and he conserved his energy, which enabled him to win in the end.

  5. i think mentally federer is lost at peace , he has to many things to worry about

  6. mentally demoralized.

  7. I think Federer is on the right track mentally. Way less errors than weve been seeing lately. A bad backhand shot in each tie break was all that lost it for him. We can't say Federer is playing awful. We'll just have to wait for the olympics draw and see what happens there. I'm still confident that Federer can win there despite the recent losses.

  8. Roger playin at his best is never outmacthed unless he's playin Rafa at clay. He is mentally weakened after the Roland Garos loss and that started this decline. I am a Rafa fan and is excited that Rafa is finally goin to take # 1. But I want to see more classic matches between the 2. Hopefully in this years US Finals. And in more grand slams. He needs to rest well at the offseason and hopefully do better than what he is doin now .. Even I fell a bit bad for him .
