No matter what state, it depends what city & county you live in.  No matter what company even.  

I could say on an average they start at low $8

it can go higher depending on work experience (not necessarily in retail)

It also depends on where at in the company you are starting.

There are different pay rates and I would say that at the lowest  level you would start no lower than $8 an hr.

I know that they pay maybe 2 or 3 dollars higher

The reason is the price of living is higher
