Age old question with TONS of discussion on in every forum there is.

Simple answers:

Mac

Pros

Easier to learn

Easier to use

Fewer viruses

Easier to maintain software

Mac

Cons

Cost of Hardware (you pay more for less)

Cost of Software (you pay more for the same thing)

Limited choices for software

Harder to locate qualified support when something                                                       really goes wrong.

Higher cost of SOME peripherals.

Typically can only use MAC OS NATIVELY (this is changing, thank God!)

You can't build your own Mac

PC

Pros

Lower cost for hardware

More familiar

More choices for software

Lower cost for software

Easy to locate any tier of support needed

Can run a variety of OSs to include Microsoft Windows; Linux in MOST of it's many flavors; SunOS; etc.

You can build one for yourself if you have the time

Cons

More likely to be comprised by virus, especially if you use Microsoft Windows

Harder to learn

Such a large set of choices for software and hardware it can be confusing

So in many cases it depends on your current level of expertise AND budget.

Both- it depends what you want.

If you are looking for something that looks good then it's the MAC as my dad has one.

If you are looking for something easy to use and practical then it's the PC as i have one.

I would love to have a MAC but i said both because i think it depends on what different people want.

i vote mac. i'm on my macbook right now actually.

macs are basically built to protect itself from viruses, so they rarely get any. PCs get alot of viruses.

i switched from a PC to a mac recently, and i love my mac.

i think that for working purposes in the older generations, PCs are best because everyone knows the programs and how to work them. for example, my parents can't work a mac no matter how hard they try, so i PC is better for them.

but for me (i'm 15) and my generation, macs definitely.  they're pretty easy to pick up on for those around my age.

i think eventually almost everyone in america will have macs.
